''Zest Ambition started with
my own quest of career happiness...''
For many years, I was trying to fit a round peg in a square hole with my career. I stumbled into a digital career after her Masters Degree and was so grateful to be given a job at that point that I focused all my time and effort making my career ''successful'' (whatever that meant at the time).
There were regular phases of doubts of course and tentatives to look outside the Digital world but mostly I did my best to make it work. Over time though, I had more and more self-directed questions about the meaning of work and the feeling that ''there was something missing'' started to become omnipresent.
To overcome this feeling, I knew that I needed to make a change. However, determining what and how to change in my career was not only extremely time-consuming (hello mental load!) but also one of the most difficult decisions I had to make. It turns out that fear of judgement + fear of failure is not the best decision making cocktail. Stress and Anxiety made a regular appearance, emotions were running high, sleep quality and eating habits were impacted too. Transitioning careers became a more frequent event and my well-being at work turned into a tide, sometimes high, sometimes low with no real way to maintain it sustainably.
It is only after three years and significant personal development work that I found a path that made her truly happy...Zest Ambition was born.
''...and the realisation that many of us
were on this journey too''
The average person will change careers 5-7 times during their working life according to career change statistics. With an ever increasing number of career choices, 30% of the workforce will now change careers or jobs every 12 months.
The average person will spend 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime, that equates to 50% of your total waking hours during any given working day. Therefore, having a happy life is ever more dependent on being happy at work.
Research validated that there was a social need and important gap to fill in the working world.
According to a study carried out by Performance Group, in 2019, only 41% of the workforce are happy most of the time at work, down from 43% in 2018 and 51% in 2017.
These findings are understandable because at no point in our lives, we are taught how to be happy, specifically how to be happy at work. There is a social expectation that if we’re lucky, life will naturally present the circumstances that will make us feel happy.
In reality, happiness is a learned skill as Richard J. Davidson explained at the World Economic Forum back in 2014. Despite us knowing that happiness is a learned skill, we are not taught it at any point in our lives, not at school, not in our internships, not by our companies.
Zest Ambition was born to help individuals develop the skill of happiness and find their path to a fulfilling career.
Zest Ambition has been created to fill this gap and teach the skill of happiness at work by applying a selection of coaching and positive psychology techniques. My mission is to inspire people to take ownership of their career happiness.
Hello there, I'm Mattie, the founder of Zest Ambition.
Here are a few things you might want to know about me:
I am an introvert who spent years pretending I was an extrovert. If you are into personality types, I am the INTP type. If human design is your thing, I am a Manifestor. My enneagram is 3. If none of this makes sense to you then all you need to know is that I am an empath at heart, creative and driven to succeed. I used to work too hard, too fast and operated in burnout cycles but I have created new healthy habits and boundaries in my career thanks to the countless hours I have spent studying personal development topics and the investments I have made in training and certifications.
After a decade working in the corporate world developing Digital Strategies for businesses ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, I went through a 3-year career transition and numerous phases of questioning which led to the creation of Zest Ambition.
My mission is now to create a society full of happy, conscious and inspired professionals.
